Parlamain School · Chrome extension
Install the recorder in two minutes.
Download the folder, unzip it, drag it onto Chrome’s extensions page. No account to create, no store: you can record your first tutorial right away.
Your tutorials stay in your browser. Nothing leaves until you publish.
Three ways to install it
Pick the one that suits you: the result is the same.
The safest
chrome://extensions- 1
Download and unzip
Right-click the zip, “Extract all”, then put the “parlamain-extension” folder somewhere stable (Documents, for example). Don’t work from inside the zip: Chrome won’t install anything from there.
- 2
Open chrome://extensions
Copy the address and paste it in Chrome’s address bar.
- 3
Turn on developer mode
Switch at the top right.
- 4
Click “Load unpacked”
The button appears at the top left. Choose the “parlamain-extension” folder (the one that contains the manifest.json file), then “Select”.
What’s next?
Click the puzzle piece at the top right of Chrome, then the pin next to Parlamain. The icon stays visible.
First recording
Open the site or tool you want to explain, click the icon, “Start recording”, then do your task as usual.
Update
Download the new version, replace the contents of the same folder, then click Parlamain’s circular arrow in chrome://extensions. Your courses are kept.
Don’t delete the folder
Chrome reads the extension from this folder. If you move or delete it, the extension stops. Put it away once and for all.
Coming soon: one-click install from the Chrome Web Store, with no developer mode and no folder to keep.
Frequently asked questions
Why do I get a “developer mode” message when Chrome starts?+
Because the extension is installed by hand, before its release on the Chrome Web Store. The message is normal: close it. It will go away once you install from the Store.
Is the extension safe?+
The code in the folder is exactly what you download; nothing is installed behind your back. Tutorials stay in your browser, on your computer. Nothing is sent until you publish, and sensitive data is masked on screenshots.
I see “Invalid package” or “manifest not found”.+
You picked the wrong folder. Open the “parlamain-extension” folder: it must directly contain the manifest.json file. If you see a second folder of the same name inside, choose that one.
The icon doesn’t appear.+
Click the puzzle piece at the top right of Chrome and pin Parlamain. Also check that it is enabled in chrome://extensions.
What about phones and tablets?+
No: Chrome extensions work on computers. Tutorials, on the other hand, can be read anywhere.
